FREE TRADE AGREEMENT MEXICO – EUROPEAN FREE TRADE ASSOCIATION (EFTA)

The Free Trade Agreement between Mexico and the European Free Trade Association(1) (EFTA), is an other window of opportunities for business with European countries.
Both Free Trade Agreements between Mexico with the EU and EFTA open up a series of business opportunities for Mexican and European investors and businessmen.

Trade Relationship Mexico - European Free Trade Association

Mexico is the only country of the Americas with transatlantic free trade agreements effective in all Western Europe. These treaties represent EU´s and EFTA's most ambitious agreements with a non-European partner.
The trade relationship Mexico- EFTA is ruled by the WTO and the FTA EFTA- Mexico effective since July, 1, 2001.
The EFTA trading block represent an important trade partner for Mexico in the global scale (13 position as buyer and 16 as supplier).
By 2001, The average duty tariff applied to Mexican definitive imports coming from the EFTA was 11.1%. For the same year, under the free trade scheme, it was 3.9%, and for the January-October period it was 1.6%.
Trade between EFTA Member Countries and Mexico is expected to rise in the next years due to the favorable business environment created by the FTA.

The agreement establishes a clear and certain legal framework for exporters and importers of good and services, and to EFTA's investors. It gives them an incentive to produce in Mexico, at a lower cost and with the advantage to sell with preferential conditions in North America, Latin America, Israel and Western Europe.
