Manitoba is Mexico 's fifth largest trading partner within Canada . Last year, trade with Manitoba amounted to almost US$220 million, or 2.3% of total Mexico–Canada trade. Although this value represents a slight decline of 1.5% from 2001, it reflects a 292.4% growth in trade since 1993.
– Imports
Mexico has become one of the province's most important foreign suppliers. In 2002, Mexico was Manitoba 's fourth largest source of imports. The province's imports from Mexico for that year surpassed US$118 million, an annual increase of 8.4%, and 637.8% more than in 1993.
From January to June of this year, Manitoba 's total imports topped US$3.7 billion. The U.S. was the main supplier, accounting for 79.4% of the total. Next were France (2.8%), China (2.5%), Germany (2.2%) and Mexico (1.9%).
–Exports
Likewise, Mexico was Manitoba 's third largest export market in 2002, behind only the United States and Japan . Manitoba 's exports to Mexico totalled more than US$101 million in 2002, an 11% decline from the previous year. Nevertheless, the 2002 value represents a 153% increase over that for 1993.
In the first half of 2003, the province's total exports topped US$3 billion. The U.S. was the main market, absorbing approximately 81% of the province's exports. Next were Japan (4.9%), Mexico (1.6%), Hong Kong (1.4%) and China (1.2%).
